FRENCH TRIP 2010 Year 7 visit Normandy

The Year 7 Linguistic Trip was a great success. All children in Year 7 took part and had a very muddy time of it! Favourite activities included bread-making, the assault course and raft-building. Mrs Channing’s group were particularly expert at fencing. Awards were given out each day to pupils who had tried really hard with their French and contributed to their team. The “Super-Singe” award was given to: Ellie Howell, Bea Byrne Hill, Ben Skailes, Charlie Fernandes and Anna Vivian on different days.

Trips out from the Chateau included a visit to Dinan market where pupils had to by their own packed lunch. Miss Coventry’s group enjoyed the boar saucisson they chose very much! In St Malo, pupils wrote postcards home, discovered the ramparts and hung out in French cafes! Mr O’Brien’s group found the world’s largest milkshakes. The final trip out was to the Hypermarche where pupils discovered the joys of French stationery and bonbons!

On the return ferry journey, some pupils wrote and others spoke “The Big T-Shirt Test” which tested them on all the phrases written on their trip shirts. Representing their groups, they all performed very well but Mr King’s group just managed to pip the other teams to win the prize. Well done!

Overall it was an excellent and very worthwhile week. The pupils were very well-behaved and made the most of their learning opportunities and had much fun. Many thanks to the staff involved: TK, MOB, UC, KS.

THE SPANISH TRIP: JULY 2009

The scholars' group, who have studied an introduction to Spanish this year, finished their course with a four day trip to Madrid.

The group stayed in an apartment in La Latina and visited the main sites of the city including Sol, Plaza Mayor, The Real Madrid Stadium (Santiago Bernabeu) and the Buen Retiro Park.

Pupils were given the opportunity to try out their Spanish whilst sampling tapas and chocolate con churros!

The group also took the AVE train to Toledo for the day where they explored the city and visited the impressive Cathedral.

A highlight was the Flamenco evening where the children tried to understand the stories behind the dancing.

The pupils were brilliantly behaved throughout and had a great time.

Thanks to TK for accompanying the trip.

 THE FRENCH TRIP: September 2008

The 5th form went to Normandy, France for a week of activities and French Speaking at the Chateau de la Baudonniere. See below for some accounts written by the pupils and some photos:

"At 5.30am on the 21st September, the 5th form went to France. We got up, gobbled down our breakfast, ran on the coach and sat down. The coach drove ages before we finally arrived at the port where we saw the Red Arrows showing off their skills. When the excitement was over, we boarded the Barfleur Ferry and stayed there for five and a half hours!"

Giles

"On Monday we started lots of activities like rafting, bread making and French lessons. It was very funny!"

Paloma

"All the group leaders were really encouraging and I absolutely loved the chateau. I wish we could have stayed for two weeks! The highlight of the visit was the hypermarket because we bought tons on sweets!"

Will C

"One evening we went to Mont St Michel  - that was really cool. On another day we went to a market and I bought a crepe and some sweets. I learnt lots of French and I think next year's fifth form will love it!"

Ed R

"The best part for me had to be the activities: from the assault course (which was so much fun getting unbelievably muddy) to aeroball (which is basically basketball on a trampoline)."

Will S

"At the Chateau, there is a mini-farm. There are rabbits, chickens, guinea pigs and one huge pig!"

Emile

"My first activity was rafting which I really liked. At the end, we all jumped into the crocodile infested lake! But my favourite activity had to be the assault course because we got so muddy that you couldn't see our faces!"

Jess

"My personal favourite was the assalt course and the raft building but we also did aeroball, circus skills, Fencing and Bread Making. We also had to do 'petits boulots' (little jobs) like feeding the chickens or cider tasting!"

Toby

"The French Trip was an amazing experience and I loved it to bits! We had a bonfire and dressed up in French Costume on the last day. The animateurs were really nice people."

Sonia

"My favourite activity was aeroball. It was very funny! At the market, I bought a crepe with nutella - it was delicious!'

Maria

"Then we went to St Malo. It was lovely. We had to buy two postcards: one for our tutor and the other for our family. We wrote them there and sent them that day. After lunch we went to the hypermarket and that was the biggest supermarket I have seen in my whole life (even bigger than Tesco!)"

Jemima

"The activities were really fun and the food was wonderful."

Theo

"On Saturday, we left the Chateau leaving a load of laughs, scares and downright smashing memories behind!"

Henry
Many thanks to all staff (TK, PGB, GY on the trip & NVR back at base!) and Le Chateau staff.
